WRITING MASTERY
Weekly classes on literary analysis and essay writing:
- Group and private classes available.
- Focused on essay writing essentials, helping students become stronger readers and writers and setting them up for success throughout high school.
- Advanced curriculums designed to accompany students in private schools, mini schools, and IB programs.

Critical reading analysis and comprehension, developing ideas on school essays, and advanced grammatical structure. (Assessment required.)

Group rates: $120 per 1.5 hour class.
PRIVATE MENTORSHIP
Mentoring your students to get to the top 1%
- Mentorship class to help your students find motivation, figure out their life direction, and master their high school career
- Creating their Master Project: building a business, starting a non-profit organization, or creating a positive change in your community
- Study skills: Dealing with motivation, procrastination, and productivity
- Career skills: How to build a relationship with teachers, how to ace an interview, how to build a network.
- Limited space available. John takes only 8 students at any given time for mentoring.
UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS COACHING
- 10 week, 1-on-1 coaching program that teaches you how to write killer applications that has helped John’s students get into top schools like Stanford, Yale, Princeton and Columbia.
- John will work directly with you to help you find your "brand story" that will make Admission Advisors LOVE YOU.
- John will coach you through 6 pre-designed, proven essay template structures for Common App and UC essay topics, and help you plan out strong "Why us" essays and how to write for "fit".
- John will coach you every step of the way, edit your essays, and help you through the full process.

I'm John, the founder of Mastery Academy.
Over the last decade, I've helped thousands of students reach academic mastery by teaching them practical, science-backed systems that help them learn more efficiently, write more effectively, think more creatively, and work more productively.
Oh, I’m also a TEDx speaker, a trained high performance coach, and trained in NLP.
When I’m not helping students reach their best, I love going on adventures (51 countries visited and counting!) and run a non-profit organization on kindness.

WORK WITH MEA little about my background…
My parents were both educators (I guess you can say it runs in the family.) My father was a Fulbright scholar who not only taught at university, but also worked for the Fulbright foundation. My mother was a child-education expert and had her own top-rated TV and radio show in Asia.
So despite their attempts to convince me to become a lawyer, I always knew that teaching was my calling.
And in order to become the best possible teacher I can be, I invested over $200,000 taking courses and training under some of the world's greatest mentors in personal growth, because I believe that an unquenchable thirst for growth should be a requirement for all teachers.
The secret that I discovered is this: that the right techniques + mindset + practice will outshine talent, 100% of the time, and I've spent the next decade relentlessly perfecting ways to help people LEARN and GROW in the most productive, effective, and enjoyable process possible.
It turns out that these well-researched, science-backed learning techniques worked (who woulda guessed?), and after a few years, I developed a reputation in top private schools and elite students as being one of the top private teachers for students looking to reach extremely ambitious goals.
I worked largely with the “top 1% families”-- children of CEOs, who wanted to learn the business mindset to one day take over the family firm. Or children of professors and scientists, who wanted to follow their parents’ paths. Or students who didn’t just want to become doctors or lawyers, but to one day lead their respective industries.
A few years ago, I started noticing that more and more students coming to me were struggling emotionally. They reported higher anxiety rates and lower moods, which naturally impacted their grades.
That’s when I realized that the system we live in is broken. The challenges that face young people today are going to become more demanding, emotionally and psychologically, than they have ever been in the past half a century.
And if we can’t change the world to make it easier on the next generation, we need to give the next generation the tools to tackle those problems.
Because doing MORE isn't necessarily doing BETTER, but to see those concepts tested and tried against the modern challenges that people face today. And if we're teaching them how to burn out now, what will happen when we send them out into the world?
Results come from an understanding of the psychology of the students, as well as in the information we teach them.
We need a holistic approach to education.
And as a side note, that's why I do stuff like this…
Yes, that's me walking on airplane wings while it's doing barrel rolls in the sky. I've also walked on fire with Tony Robbins, swam with sharks in the open ocean, paraglided through the Himalayas next to Everest, hiked in the night through the Amazonian forest, raced ATVs over the Sahara desert, and interviewed Samuel L Jackson.
Why?
Because I've come to learn that the difference between those who accomplish great things, despite incredible odds, and those who don't, is the mindset they have. It's the way they challenge their mind and either defeat, or are defeated by, their fears and doubts.
I challenge myself to face my own fears, so that I may teach my students how to confront theirs.
I decided to call this school "Mastery Academy" because, deep down, that is what we're here for.
TO MASTER OUR MIND, OUR EMOTIONS, AND OUR ENVIRONMENT. TO BREAK FREE FROM THE
CHAINS OF FEAR AND RECLAIM OUR DOMAIN.
Over the years, I've helped hundreds of students, individually, to achieve great things (you can read a few hundred of their reviews in the testimonials section), but my proudest students are the ones who have gone on to share their experiences and their own visions with the world, as leaders, innovators, disrupters, healers, and creators.
Ultimately, I do what I do so that I can empower students to go out into the world and make a dent. To fearlessly try things, break things, disrupt things, and reinvent things.
To knock on the door of their destiny and dare disturb the universe.
To become the MASTER of their world.
